Summary: MAKN uses only strictly necessary and functional cookies and local storage — the minimum needed to keep you signed in, remember whether you have completed onboarding, and remember your display preferences (hide-amounts, language, currency, and theme). We use no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, no tracking pixels, and no cross-site tracking. No consent banner is required for the technologies described here, but we explain them for transparency.
This policy explains how MAKN uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies when you use the App, whether through a browser or the mobile application.
It should be read together with the Privacy Notice and the Terms of Use.
A cookie is a small text file stored by a browser on your device. It may be used to maintain a login session, protect an account, or remember a choice.
Local storage is an area within the browser (or, in the mobile app, within the app's own private storage) that an application can use to retain a simple setting on your device. Unlike cookies, local storage is not automatically sent to a server with each request.
Both are described together in this policy as "storage technologies."
The current version of the App uses a limited set of strictly necessary or functional technologies, set out in full below.

A. Authentication session cookies. These maintain your signed-in state, verify and refresh the session, and protect pages that only you should see. They contain a technical session token, not your name or your portfolio details. They are set with secure and HTTP-only attributes where the browser supports them. If you block these, you will not be able to sign in or use your account.
B. `mkz_onboarded`. A simple indicator that onboarding was completed or skipped. It holds a flag value only — no portfolio data and no financial amounts.
C. `ledger_session`. A fallback session cookie used in certain deployments of the App for authentication. It contains an expiry time and a technical signature. It does not contain your name, email, or portfolio data. It is cleared when you sign out, and expires automatically after 30 days if you do not.
D. `privacy` (local storage). Remembers your preference to obscure figures on screen. It stores a true/false setting only and contains no financial amount or value. It is a display setting; see Section 15 of the Privacy Notice for what it does and does not do.
E. Interface preferences (local storage). Your language, currency, and theme choices, stored so the App looks the same next time. These contain no personal or financial data.
MAKN uses no advertising, marketing, or analytics cookies. Specifically, the App does not use storage technologies for:
The App contains no advertising identifier, no tracking pixel, no social-media plugin, and no third-party marketing or product-analytics SDK. Any crash- or error-diagnostic component is used solely to identify faults and sets no storage technology for tracking purposes.
If we introduce non-essential analytics or marketing technologies in the future, we will update this policy and — where required — present a clear consent choice before activating them. They will be off by default, and refusing them will not affect your ability to use the App.
Our authentication provider may set session cookies necessary to sign you in and refresh your session. Processing associated with those cookies is governed by our contractual arrangements with that provider and by our Privacy Notice.
Using a third-party provider does not permit that provider to use your portfolio data for its own independent advertising or marketing, and our agreements do not allow it.
We do not embed third-party advertising, social-media, or tracking scripts in the App.
In the mobile application, equivalent information is stored in the app's own private storage on your device rather than in browser cookies. The purposes, contents, and durations are the same as those in the table above.
You can clear this storage at any time through your device settings (for example, Android: Settings → Apps → MAKN → Storage → Clear data) or by uninstalling the App. Clearing it will sign you out and reset your preferences.
The App does not access or use the device advertising identifier.
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings, and clear local storage through the site or application settings on your device. Most browsers let you block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, or delete cookies when you close the browser.
However, blocking or deleting the necessary storage technologies will:
Strictly necessary technologies do not require an optional consent choice, because they are required to deliver the service you have specifically requested. We nevertheless describe them here for transparency. The functional items in the table are limited to remembering your own display choices and store no personal or financial data.
An authentication cookie is removed when it expires, when you sign out, or when you delete it from your browser, depending on its type and configuration.
Local-storage data remains on the device until:
We may update this policy if we introduce a new storage technology, change a cookie's name or duration, or if the purposes of use or our service providers change.
We will update the "Last updated" date and, where required, obtain consent before activating any non-essential storage technology.
